What is the Air Travel Levy?

The Austrian Air Travel Levy (Flugabgabe / Luftverkehrsabgabe), governed by the Flugabgabegesetz (FlugAbgG), applies to commercial and private aviation departures of passengers from Austrian airports on aircraft with a maximum take-off weight above 2,000 kg. It is charged per departing passenger, and the rate depends on the great circle distance (GCD) to the destination airport.

For operators without a registered seat or permanent establishment in Austria, we can also act as your fiscal representative (Fiskalvertreter), registering, declaring, and settling the levy with the Austrian tax office on your behalf.

Rates

Austria does not use multi-zone distance brackets. The law applies a single two-tier structure based on a 350 km great circle distance threshold:

Rates are indicative and subject to change by the Austrian legislator. Exemptions apply in certain cases, including transit and transfer passengers, children under two years without their own seat, and flights for medical, humanitarian, or official purposes.
